Photography Pricing: Common Misconceptions

This week on Instagram, I asked: 'What is holding you back from booking a family session?'

Unanimously, my community told me that pricing was the number one reason that they shied away from booking a session. I get it, and I've been there, but it made me want to talk about the common misconceptions about high-quality photographer pricing. In so many ways, high-quality photography sessions are more affordable than you may think.

Price Shopping

I don't encourage price-shopping for a photographer.

I say this because you're not going to see a photographer's work whose pricing starts at $600 and find that same portfolio and image quality in someone who charges $250 for an all-inclusive 30+ image session package.

Any photographer who has invested their money, time, and heart into their career cannot afford to price themselves that low. So, while you can find lower prices out there, you get what you pay for.

You're investing in moments you'll never get back, so I encourage you to value them and honor them by investing in high-quality, professional images.

Payment Plans

A common occurrence when looking for a photographer and seeing a price around $600 is to think, "Wow, I could never afford that."

You can. Speaking to your photographer about a payment plan is an option that you may not have considered. For example, I have a convenient retainer fee of $150 that goes towards the total cost of your session. This means that you could book my $600 session in January by putting down $150, and we can calculate a payment plan that best fits your schedule.

You could schedule your session for June of the same year and only pay around $100 a month until your session date. As a mom of three, I don't always have $600 to drop all at once myself, so this option is most attractive to me. Payment plans can be a beneficial tool to utilize when booking a photographer.

Value

If you're booking me as your photographer, I promise you will have a valuable experience. I built the backbone of my business on this. I will go above and beyond to stylize your wardrobe, even including options from my own client closet, so you don't have to invest in outfits for your session. I will tailor an entire session so that you get what you're looking for with personalized locations, session flow, and imagery.

You're not just getting your picture taken when you book with me; you're getting a full and specialized experience on top of beautiful art that will last a lifetime.

You can read reviews from my previous clients here.
