Tips to Look Natural in Photos
We all want to look our best in photos. This is likely especially true when you’re investing time and money in a professional photographer! Looking natural in pictures isn’t always as easy as it seems, especially if you’re juggling kids or other family members during a photoshoot. Here are my 5 tips to help you and your family look as photogenic as ever on picture day:
1. Wear Flattering Clothes
If you want to look natural in your photos, it’s important to wear clothes that you look and feel good in. This will automatically make you feel more comfortable and help you loosen up during your session. If you’re taking a family picture, the same goes for everyone else. It’s more beneficial for your kids to be comfortable with what they’re wearing, rather than looking posed, dressed up, or matching.
2. Take Extra Care With Your Hair
Giving a little extra attention to your hair on photo day makes a huge difference (especially if your shoot is outside)! If you’re constantly worrying about how your hair looks during your session, you won’t be as relaxed overall. Of course, your photographer will assist you with this as much as possible but putting in some additional legwork beforehand will ease the process throughout.
3. Know Your Best Angles
Taking some time to look through previous photos of yourself to see which angles you like best is very helpful on photoshoot day. Though your photographer will help you with staging and posing, it’s also important for you to be aware of how you look and feel your best in pictures. This way, you’ll naturally pose to those angels during your session, helping you look more photogenic for the entire the shoot.
4. Don’t Be Afraid to Move Around or Use Props
Lifestyle photography shouldn’t be too posed. Moving around a little bit or using some props can help everyone loosen up a bit and make your photos look more natural. Remember, lifestyle photography is all about capturing real life! There’s nothing wrong with having a little fun during your shoot, and in fact, you should be having fun!
5. Don’t Force a Smile
Of course, we want to capture those bright, beautiful smiles during your session, but that doesn’t mean that every photo needs to be forced. Smile when it comes naturally and don’t worry if you’re not always smiling. This will ensure more natural-looking faces all around!
