How to Feel Confident During Your Session
Unless you are a professional model, being in front of the camera might not feel natural to you. As a photographer, I want my sessions to feel fun and help you feel as confident as possible. Confidence in front of the camera will always translate to gorgeous pictures that show your true self, your best smile and capture the love you have in your life.
Here are my top tips to shake those nerves, stop being shy, and get confident in front of the camera!
Choose the Right Outfits
This applies to the whole family. Outfits are extremely important to create beautiful images! However, you do not want to be stuck in an uncomfortable outfit for an hour.
Wear things that fit well and compliment any insecurities you might have. Make sure your kids are wearing things they would enjoy wearing and in materials that will feel comfortable.
If the weather is going to be colder, layer up! Adding cardigans and jackets to outfits can make very interesting textures that complement the wardrobe. If you have a session with toddlers, make sure you are wearing something you can chase them around in and aren’t afraid to get a bit sandy.
Plan
Get all your important items together a day prior to your session. Pack snacks for your kids, waters if it is hot out, and anything else you know that you might need! Do not add any extra stress to your picture day by packing at the last minute.
Let Go of Expectations
This is the most important step of all! Obviously, you are booking a photography session because you have an idea of family pictures that are very important to you. Discuss your ideals and dreams with your photographer prior to your session. Let them know if there are any specific shots you want. On the day of the session, let go of that anxiety about being perfect! You hired a professional to take that stress off your shoulders.
Let Your Kids Be Kids!
As a photographer, I know just what to do to get everyone cooperating and happy! Instead of going to your session with the intention to be models, see it as an afternoon of family bonding. Enjoy the experience for what it is and be in that moment.
Bonus tip: Have a great playlist on your way to the session. Listen to the songs that make you happy, and that make you feel confident. This will start the shoot off on a great note and give you a boost of energy before we get started.
