Summer Photoshoot Tips

Your summer photoshoot should be full of fun and special moments, just like the summer months! Here are some of my tips and ideas to make your family photos one of a kind.

Picking the Right Backdrop is Key

You want to choose a setting that your family feels comfortable in. Whether that’s by the beach or in a flowery field, pick a place where your personalities will shine through. If your kids are laughing and having a good time, the photoshoot will automatically go more smoothly, and the images will come out looking more natural. If they find that joy playing in the surf, don’t worry about getting a little wet!

Try Muted Colors

Think soft blues, pinks, and greens or keep it even simpler with whites and creams. You want to pick a color palette that will look good with a summery backdrop and won’t take away from the scenery. If greenery will be around, try adding some tans or browns. If the photoshoot will be at the beach, it might be a good idea to add some pops of aqua, navy, or turquoise. Let the scenery guide you.

I suggest starting with mom’s outfit and then go from there! You can incorporate an additional color or shade with the kids' clothes but use mom’s wardrobe to get your color palette started.

Remember to Have Fun

Summer is a fun-filled season, is it not?! Try to have fun with your photoshoot. If that means bringing some props for your kiddos to play with, then do it!

Bubbles are a great way to keep your children engaged while adding a little sparkle to your shoot. If your kids have a favorite toy or stuffed animal, consider letting them bring it! Not only will it help bring out those perfect little smiles, but it will also capture that exact moment in time when that object meant everything to them.

Love Your Photographer

Not all photographers are the same! You need to work with someone who will make your family feel comfortable and help bring out the best in them. I can help you capture those precious moments and make sure you have fun with it! After all, isn’t that what summer is all about?
